Corbett National Park was founded by late Jim Corbett in 1936, the legendary hunter of man-eater tigers and a great nature lover, who spend many of his years in Tehri-Garhwal hills working for the cause of wildlife conservation, especially tigers.
The park is situated in the foothills of Himalayas ; in the state of Uttaranchal. The 1,200 sq.mt. park is famous for its wildlife sightings. Leopards, Crocodiles, Elephants, Langurs, Rhesus Monkeys and the most importantly , tigers and its prey deers are the resident attractions of the park. Initially , the park was named as Hailey National Park but after independence, the park was named after Jim Corbett to honor his contribution in wildlife conservation in 1955-56.

| India’s first national park is a visitor’s paradise for its breathtaking scenic beauty. Along side the park flows the Ramganga River, which is a popular spot to view majestic sun setting behind hills. Ramganga river is also famous for its fishes and fishing camps on various stretches of the River are often organized. The 'Mighty Mahseer’, also called the fighting fish is the most common fish and for Anglers, it is one of the finest rivers of North India.
The Kanda Ridge surrounds the northern core area of the park, which with a height of 1043 m is also a trekking point. Towards the ridge Ghoral or Goat Antelopes are often sighted. |

| With a rich and diverse biodiversity, the park is a heaven for bird watchers as it is home to over 600 species of birds. Among the total bird species found in India half are found in the park. Some of them are very rare and are not found elsewhere. Among them are also many endangered birds species. Therefore, it is a bird watcher’s delight. Bird sightings depend greatly on season, timing and luck. There are numerous water bodies in and around the ridge that provide an ideal habitat for migratory ducks and Waders.
Ramganga River is the aquatic abode of endangered gharials, mugger crocodiles, otters and turtles and their sightings are frequent. It’s a must visit list of all travelers. Also one can visit Dhikala Machaan. In earlier times , a wooden platform was build on a tree and a prey (deer) was tied to the tree to lure the tiger to the tree. This was called machaan. Dhikala Machaan has been preserved as it was years ago. Getheryo Library has the wide variety of books on nature, wildlife conservation, Jim Corbett and also many books about the area. Corbett Museum has been set up by the park administration to give visitors a running account of the park’s famed history and glorious times during Corbett. Garjia Temple can be visited if time permits. Jim Corbett’s House has been maintained as it was during his times and it’s the Mecca of all tiger lovers, as there lived a man who devoted his life for the cause of tigers. |

| Activities at the Park |
| Elephant and Jeep safaris, fishing camps, trekking and bird watching safaris are the most famous activities undertaken by tourists at the park. Besides them , other activities that can be done are slithering, jungle walk with an escort guide, cycling through jungle roads, bamboo rafting and Para gliding.

| Depending on your interest and liking the tour package can be designed. However to completely soak into the ambience of the area, minimum suggested stay at Corbett Park is for 4 Days. The trip can be extended to Nainital , which is just 65 km from the park and is famous for its nine lakes.

| What to Wear |
| It is advisable to wear earthy colored clothes to be able to mix with the surroundings and not attract the attention of animals. In summer months it can get very humid and hot so suntan lotion, and caps or hats are a must to escape the heat. The mornings are cold, so light warm clothing must be carried for the morning drives or walks and elephant rides into the Corbett Park. In the winter months, warm clothing is a must. Raincoats and umbrellas must be taken during monsoon months..
